Why Be The Musician That You Want To Be

I was 16 then and about to enter college.

"What course will you be taking in college?" my cousin asked.

I said
"I don't know. Whatever my family feel is right for me."

Then she said
"Why not take what you want?"

"I don't feel like I’m entitled to it," I replied.

"If I were you, I'd take what I want. I've been there you know, and it took me painful, long years before things made sense to me." She answered.

I didn't really understand what she meant.

It's been five years & I never really thought about that, until now...

I knew there was something about playing music that attracted me but I have a very blurry image of what I wanted that time.
WHY? Because I never really asked myself.
WHY? Because I was not comfortable thinking about it.
WHY? Because I thought I don't deserve it.
WHY? Because I thought I have responsibilities for my family, and thinking about what I want, maybe is selfish.
WHY? Because I thought I can never help others if I did what I wanted, so why bother think about it.

Now where did that "crappy" belief system come from?!

I'd be lying if I told you I knew exactly where.
It's not easy as answering "1+1=?" you know.
Why am I even asking about where?
It’s pointless.

Then what do I think about now?

Hmmmm...

"What if..."

Oh no! It's the dreaded question.
Maybe out of regret, or out of inspiration.

I'd just be boring you if I stated all my "what ifs..."
I just don't see the point bickering about it.

Cut off all the bull crap,
Here's what I have to say instead.

I'm a character in this world;
and so are other people.
That makes You a character in this world too.

And as characters, we play our roles.
What better way of living than playing a role that you truly want.

Now, think about it
Wouldn't you act out in a best actor/actress level if you were playing the role you wanted?
I know I would.

And who would get rewarded for a best actor/actress level performance?
It's you --- playing the role you have always wanted.

The truth now is you become generous when you do & play the role that what you want.

You become happy when you see a great movie, with great plot, script, actors and actresses right?
Personally, I get inspired.

People appreciate great movies because people behind it made it with passion.
And passion comes out with doing what you want.
That is true with great music, art, poetry, life story, book, personality & anything under the sun.

So, now, I shift my belief system.
I feel free to ask the "universe" what I want to become. That way I could give & receive more.

As what my friend Jhoanne quoted to me from the best selling author Elizabeth Gilbert:

“You’re a part of this universe… you’re a constituent. You have every entitlement to participate in the actions of the universe and to let your feelings be known. So put your opinion out there. Make your case. Believe me, it will at least be taken into consideration.”

We are characters in this universe, and we have all the rights to play the role we want.
It's the path to generosity, not for ourselves alone but for others as well.

That is why you should cut off the bull crap belief systems and start to feel free to be the great musician you want to be.
